Skin Resurfacing

Modern laser technology has evolved over the years to become safer and more effective.  Laser resurfacing at Summit Dermatology can be finely tuned to address specific changes for each unique patient while also factoring in acceptable downtime, cost, and goals. We are fortunate to have several laser resurfacing modes to choose from, which ensure that you receive the treatment best suited to you.

Laser resurfacing can improve changes associated with aging, sun damage, and genetics – especially increased skin pigmentation, redness and blood vessels, textural and laxity changes, wrinkles, and scarring. Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Jessica Kim, utilizes Sciton lasers to achieve smoother, tighter, and more healthy skin.

Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser (Halo Pro)

Halo is the newest fractional resurfacing technology and the first hybrid laser that delivers both ablative and non-ablative fractional skin resurfacing simultaneously that results in deep dermal rejuvenation and epidermal renewal in a single treatment.  Halo can address years of sun damage by precisely targeting specific layers within the skin.  It is often combined with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for an improved overall result.

  • Laser of choice when recovery time is limited
  • Correction of both superficial and deep levels of the skin (Deep non-ablative pulse is immediately followed by more superficial ablative pulse within the same column of skin.)
  • Healing time of 5-7 days with sunburn-like reaction
  • Requires a series of treatments (average of 3 treatments, 1 month apart)

Ablative Fractional Resurfacing (ProFractional Therapy)

This is the second-most aggressive and effective resurfacing offered for mild to severe wrinkles and texture changes and acne scarring on the face.  Columns of treated area is replaced by new, healthier skin from nearby untreated skin.

  • A fraction of targeted area is treated resulting in faster healing time
  • Healing time of 2-3 weeks with redness, oozing, crusting, and peeling
  • Requires oral pain medications and nerve blocks
  • Requires a series of treatments (average of 3 treatments, 1 month apart)
  • Full results of treatment seen in 3-4 months

MicroLaser Peel (MLP)

MicroLaser peels provide the effects of a moderate to deep chemical peel but with a more controlled, even, and consistent result.  Used to even out skin tone and improve texture on the face, neck, chest, and back of the hands.  It is often combined with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for an improved overall result.

  • Face, neck, chest and back of hands are frequently treated areas
  • Improves fine lines, pigment, and texture for smoother, brighter skin
  • Combined with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to address stubborn brown spots
  • Healing time of 1 week with redness, oozing, crusting, and peeling
  • Requires a series of treatments for optimal results

Fully Ablative Erbium Resurfacing (Contour TRL)

This is the most aggressive resurfacing with 100% of the targeted area treated.  It is effective for moderate to severe wrinkles and texture changes and acne scarring on the face.  It is especially effective for lines around the eyes and the vertical lines on the upper and lower lips.

  • 100% of the targeted area is treated
  • Healing time of 4 weeks or longer with swelling, oozing, crusting, and redness
  • Requires oral pain medications and nerve blocks
  • Most effective laser resurfacing for moderate to deep etched lines
  • May require 1-2 treatments to see desired results
