What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that helps improve the efficacy of your daily skin care regimen and various aesthetic procedures such as chemical peels, hydrafacials, and light/laser treatments. It is a non-invasive manual exfoliation treatment that helps remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil, and fine vellus hair (or peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin to reveal brighter, smoother skin.
The Dermaplaning procedure
During a treatment session, the skin surface is gently brushed with a sterilized surgical scalpel to remove dead skin cells, dirt, oils, and fine hairs. Dermaplaning can be a relaxing treatment with no significant discomfort. Immediately following treatment, patients may apply makeup and return to their normal routine. Alternatively, dermaplaning prepares the skin for other aesthetic treatments such as a chemical peel, hydrafacial, or light/laser treatments.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
There are multiple benefits to dermaplaning to include the following:
- Temporarily remove fine vellus hairs (or peach fuzz)
- Improves penetration of skin care products
- Improves efficacy of aesthetic treatments (ie., chemical peels, hydrafacials, laser treatments)
- Improves skin texture and tone
Candidates for Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is safe for most patients, including those with sensitive skin. However, we do not recommend dermaplaning for patients with excessively oily skin or acne prone skin.
How Many Dermaplaning Treatments Are Needed To Achieve Results?
Multiple treatments may be required to achieve your aesthetic goals. Dermaplaning can be performed every three to four weeks.
